A good manager would’ve just let you get your money back. Better than a bad review. Bad manager, like you said.

    Screwed by Home Depot!
BTW, if you buy a brand name tool from a box store, check the model number to compare it. Some models look and act exactly the same, however the cheaper priced ones usually have nylon gears instead of metal, and cheaper bushings.
I learned that years ago when I got a drywall screw gun that was half the price at a Home Depot.

  3. steve cr on September 20, 2022 at 8:23 pm

Veterans Beware. Home Depot gives a 10% Veteran discount on SOME of their goods. Sheetrock 10% screws for rock 0% discount etc. Home Depot now requires a card to claim discount. Lowes uses a phone number to verify. McCoys gives 10% off entire bill. Just spent $10,000 to rebuild a house. $1000 is a lot of money to save. I no longer use Home Depot because of the not so discount Veteran discount.

Contact the Atlanta headquarters and give them the info… you will have your tool before you know it

    Besides this issue you had:
I learned a long while back that HD has a deal with most manufacturers to make a less expensive version for them. I took a dewalt sander for repair a decade ago and a day later was told to return and pick it up, "we don’t fix Home Depot tools." They said once you open a tool you find lesser components. I purchased a Dewalt chopsaw from a tool shop, the same model at HD is $100 cheaper, for good reason. The good tool and tool repair shops know.

Make sure you wait until you cool down and get your head together before taking up a complaint to a woman. They have trouble taking things with a grain of salt.

Milwaukee Tool company is complicit in this theft by shipping the tool in a non-transparent box.

  8. GR40RCapri on September 20, 2022 at 8:28 pm

Home Depot customer service has purposefully taken a nosedive…

Can’t even return stuff without a receipt… they do NOT cater to those of us that over-buy to save on those awful $10-15 trips unless you save every receipt. They send you to a 3rd party company.

  13. RW on September 20, 2022 at 8:37 pm

The Milwaki packaging department can easily look back on their computer files and match the box to the impact.

  18. tubularguynine on September 20, 2022 at 8:42 pm

I used to work in tool repair, and we would get pallets of tools from big box stores for repair, and when we took the tools apart, they would have decades-old motors, wires and switches inside NEW cases!

  19. Dieter Domanovic on September 20, 2022 at 8:45 pm

Home Depot always had a problem with customers switching products into different packets. You probably got a return where the customer switched the impact driver. I’ve had them where they switched packaging for tarps. Also, on the "open box" deals parts are always missing. I didn’t know that until I tried to return the item with missing parts and they seemed surprised that I would go through the trouble to return.

I Bought a jug of Mobil motor oil from Walmart with used oil in it. Low life happens…was able to return it though explaining the situation

  21. Squid Trader on September 20, 2022 at 8:45 pm

Why do they not check the tools when customers do a return to ensure they’re not exchanging their broken tool they already own for a new tool to get their money back for the new tool? leaving the store with the broken tool and the customer stole the new tool and got their money back.

  22. rosiesiefker on September 20, 2022 at 8:50 pm

I worked at a Home Depot for 16 yrs and the returns cashier is suppose to check to make sure what is returned matches what’s in the box. Obvious they didn’t do it and now you have to deal with it. So the other store they transferred the drill from is where the problem is. If you wanted you can call corporate and complain because you have knowledge and sticker on box showing it’s from a different store and you have receipt showing you bought it at current store. Prove the manager wrong. The proof is on the box. Like they love to say the customer is always right!!! I’d fights it and then give a bad review. Corporate don’t like that and will deal with manager. I know things. It will be investigated.

Home depot is dirty, I quit buying from them 10+ years ago.

  24. JeezusIsreal on September 20, 2022 at 8:51 pm

I won’t go back to home Depot the last time I was there returning a air pneumatic tool the lady grumbled at me and said the serial number on the plastic box didn’t match the serial number on the tool just laughable.
My company and I did thousands and thousands of dollars in materials and tools from home Depot over 30 years. We dumped them. I and my company use Lowe’s and Menards 11% savings rebate.

  25. the upscriber on September 20, 2022 at 8:53 pm

I’ve never been able to find anyone working in that store to help me buy anything. Go to Noblesville instead.

  27. William Jones on September 20, 2022 at 8:55 pm

Yes unfortunately a lot of people do that in the people that work at receiving does not inspect the tools like they should that being said The only way that you can actually get it back is to take them to court and they will see if you’re willing to take it that far most likely they would replace your money or your tool..

  28. DRS on September 20, 2022 at 8:56 pm

Thats why I never accept anything that has been opened and taped back shut.

  33. TavenLegendGaming on September 20, 2022 at 9:02 pm

Home depot, Lowe’s, walmart, all stores that accept returns needs to inspect every return for this reason sad they cant even do the job they are hired for. " oh you wanna return a $200 item ok heres your money" and its not even the $200 item

  34. Bill Solomon on September 20, 2022 at 9:03 pm

It is a big deal! Home Depot has no customer satisfaction!

  35. Petie Hunter on September 20, 2022 at 9:05 pm

I own a small hardware store and because of customers swapping out products and or taking whatever part they need before returning it we don’t take returns on opened items.

  36. Sheldon Reed on September 20, 2022 at 9:05 pm

This is a common problem with merchandise that you get from Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes all of them. Someone working for those stores switch out the expensive part, tool or whatever and replace it with something of lesser value. So, anyone buying anything that comes in a box, inspect the box to make sure the security tape has not been tampered with. I agree with all you said. It is a sign of the times we live in. Trust no one especially Tina at home depot. Store managers are there not to protect the customer, but to protect store profits.

  37. Dekklin on September 20, 2022 at 9:07 pm

THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS! ITS EFFIN INSANE HOW MUCH WE HARD WORKING FOLKS PAY FOR OUR TOOLS ONLY TO BE TAKEN FOR OUR TIME AND MONEY AND THEN ACCUSED OF BEING THE BAD GUYS!!

  40. JeezusIsreal on September 20, 2022 at 9:11 pm

Ever wonder why they call it THE home Depot. ?
Ever wonder why they treat people differently in the store construction workers do not get near the attention unless they are contractors buying lots of stuff all the time.?
Or a salesman will give complete attention to a married couple but you were standing there first.
Why they lie about their prices and the orange tag specials they finally got rid of them.? Why they take no responsibility for the "recomended contractor list". half of them don’t have a clue what they’re doing.
How were they able to charge by the SF square foot on some carpets but it says LN, Lineal feet on the sign.?
How can the manager push the tool department sales people to lie about the manufacturers special deal, example, Milwaukee had a buy one get one free and the salesperson told me that it’s not true even though the sign was there plainly in front of all of us to see. So I went ahead and made the purchase and I did get the buy one get one free.
The security people at home Depot carry grudges and will staulk anyone that has given them trouble before or that question how they do business.
My company did over $150,000 in purchases per year and we dumped home Depot after several of the above mentioned including the man in the carpet department that attacked one of our workers verbally accusing him of destroying the store. The salesman also said he was a millionaire businessman,(he was let go six months later) And the carpet was the 6 ft wide indoor outdoor they were selling by the square foot which means that the inflated price they were charging was 6 times more than ski tag.

  43. Chris Bowers on September 20, 2022 at 9:14 pm

I purchased a 3 tool deal from their (HD) website and received 2 tools in a box. I contacted online customer service and they said there was a delay with the missing item (I was suspicious because the app said package delivered). I contacted them a week later after no update and my suspicions were validated. There was no delay and that there was an unexplained problem.
They said to go to a store and they could help me. The customer service guy in store didn’t know what to do, and kept shrugging his shoulders. After a several minutes he told me to just take the missing tool off the shelf, because the original CS didn’t solve the problem. Seems like they don’t know how to handle such problems that are slightly out of the ordinary.

  45. Sean Mitchell on September 20, 2022 at 9:16 pm

I had that happen to me at Walmart with a 200 $ amp but it was not even an amp it was a car bully release tool in side I didn’t even try to get my money back cuz I already figured they’re just going to think that I’m lying to the.

  46. MadCarver on September 20, 2022 at 9:16 pm

That sort of thing happens all the time at Home Depot. It should be pretty simple for the returns people to actually know what product is being returned and check it. But instead what they do is a quick return and toss it back on the shelf. Home Depot is actually pretty garbage. You can’t even get straight lumber there. I’ll pay more to go other places and get good quality.

  47. onenikkione on September 20, 2022 at 9:17 pm

a little long, jump to 3:20. I do my own oil changes and purchase oil for three cars in the family usually at Walmart. I’ve had it happen twice where the foil seal was broken. Someone must have used the expensive synthetic oil and replaced it with who-knows-what brand or weight of oil. 🤬😤 I now take the jugs to the service counter and open them up b4 walking out.

  48. biffy7 on September 20, 2022 at 9:17 pm

The irony is that if you just retaped the box, you could just return it! But that’s not being a good guy.

  49. JeezusIsreal on September 20, 2022 at 9:19 pm

Few years ago my customer wanted me to get something at home Depot so I grudgingly went there went in the front door and there was a salesman who is actually a cop that had just given me a ticket a couple years earlier and lied about my speed by 10 miles per hour more than I was actually going. At the time of the pullover I asked if I could see his print out from his radar he said no and yelled at me as loud as he could I’m just doing my job it cost me $200. so that day at home Depot I went straight over to the other workers and said I will never come back here again because you hired that a****** cop.
