My father passed away a couple years ago and left a lot of tools. I swooped in and grabbed as much as I could. Among the Craftsman tools, dating back to the ‘60’s, were some power tools with die cast housings, not plastic. Built to last.

Do you find that the tool bag is too small?

  3. Frankie V on September 20, 2022 at 4:04 pm

This is an excellent video. Would love a follow up to see how these tools have treated you since!

  4. DThunderGun B on September 20, 2022 at 4:06 pm

Man if you’re worried about your tools resting if they get a little wet what you can do is take them and spray some white lithium grease on an old grease rag and just give him a quick rub down on all the exposed metal surfaces and that keeps a barrier between the bare metal and the moisture.

Kline tools are so boring looking..

  6. Acquired Taste on September 20, 2022 at 4:07 pm

The Stanley Fatmax chisel is made in the UK and would be a nice addition to your collection.

Never buy cheap tools. Start out right buying quality stuff. And hit up estate sales especially. By the time you are 60 you will have a meaningful shop to pass down. My collection started with a Kennedy box and tools from my step dad who was a jet mechanic in the Air Force. I was fortunate. I clean out my bag regularly. But remember you cant carry your whole shop in a project or general purpose bag. And you cant carry a bag that will handle any and all variables. Keep it basic.

I have almost all the same tools :))

  9. Adam on September 20, 2022 at 4:09 pm

Sharpen the chisel blade and sand and stain the handle.

Sinophobia is not cool! They are not all commies and Chinesium, unlike Palumboism, is not real.

Check out the Malco Eagle Grip locking pliers. They bought and reopened the original vise grip factory in Dewitt Nebraska where your grandfather’s pair was made. I have a dozen old pairs of Dewitt Peterson ones I’ve collected, but got a Malco to try out. It’s nicer. Like one of the nicest tools I own nice. My biggest complaint on the knipex ones and other decently made pairs from other manufacturers is that the teeth aren’t hardened. The harder the teeth, the better the bite, the better the grip, especially for the curved jaws on round objects and stripped hex heads.

  12. DThunderGun B on September 20, 2022 at 4:13 pm

I love all my Klein tools but I have some southwire pliers, a old school wiggly from the 80’s my journeyman gave me because I hate the light up idiot sticks, knipex does make some great gear but it’s expensive. I like my Klein hybrid pliers they’re a cross between lineman pliers, and strippers, because they got the fat jaws like linemans along with the cutting edge, and the three main wire strippers you most commonly use when doing electric work, a couple screw cutter slots for the most common ones, and even some crimpers too for crimping splices

  13. Wolf_Imi on September 20, 2022 at 4:14 pm

Nice set of tools. The electrician in me had a meltdown when you pulled out the non contact voltage tester, though.^^ Please, please, throw that thing away and get a two-pole voltage tester or a multimeter.

  14. Chuque on September 20, 2022 at 4:16 pm

Don’t replace the chisel! You can fix that and keep it!

  15. Muddyh2o2 Init on September 20, 2022 at 4:17 pm

All of your metal tools share one thing in common, Rust spots! They won’t be heirloom if all rusted out. Get busy with the steel wool … plus your grandfathers wood chisel is in sad shape !

  16. Michael K on September 20, 2022 at 4:19 pm

I’m surprised you’re using a Dewalt blade instead of the Olfa ones; here in Canada, everyone uses their knives and knives. They’re made in japan blade housing and blades, I swear by them. Used them to slice metal eavestroughs, carpet etc.

The PDF won’t load as Bitly says it’s potentially harmful.

  19. The Soap Forge on September 20, 2022 at 4:20 pm

For a non tool junkie, you got some really good tools and as a repair guy it was cool to see a bunch of the same tools I use in your video. You sure did your research.

I wouldn’t let Children near Tools.
Your Daughter was looking into that laser level….danger of serious eye damage.

  24. Дмитрий Сбер on September 20, 2022 at 4:26 pm

First of all – throw away that Husky bag, and get yourself a Veto bag:) Milwaukee m12 is great choice, but you need to go fuel or surge… Nut drivers – Klein are the best. Regular screwdrivers – either Wera or Wiha, no other options:) Pliers – Knipex are far way the best(and "k" actually is pronounced;) For the utility knife – I would go for Milwaukee but with dewalt carbon blades(black ones). Consider Pica for your marker(long nose makes huge difference) Good luck!:)

What about slip pliers and an awl?

  26. Mary Qiao on September 20, 2022 at 4:29 pm

Watching first 2 minutes of this video. Heard China 5+ times. You sounded like …. Mr. Trump 👍

Finally someone who pronounces knipex the correct way!

  28. skim193 on September 20, 2022 at 4:30 pm

wd40 is not the best lube. wen the propellent evaporates u r left with a gummy residue. ironically wd40 is the best way to clean off this residue. use a 3 in 1 oil or a synthetic spray

  29. The American on September 20, 2022 at 4:31 pm

DeWalt should say "ASSEMBLED" in the USA not "MADE". They are playing with the phrase to their benefit unfortunately.. and it’s only a handful of tools.

  30. Kamran Kureshi on September 20, 2022 at 4:33 pm

Fuck the obsession with tools. Just an obsession and a hugh waste of money. Buy your mom a pearl necklace instead!

  31. Rubén Sintes on September 20, 2022 at 4:34 pm

I’m very glad to see that you have tools made in Spain! 😍
We have some brands here that are stunning. As you said are expensive, but are worth every euro you spend in them.

  32. Ryan Lillie on September 20, 2022 at 4:35 pm

I might be wrong but I believe wd40 isn’t an lubricant.

  34. deth502 on September 20, 2022 at 4:40 pm

only 4 min into the video, and i see im 2 years late, and probably even more so, but this comment may help viewers following the same path.

as someone who retired from residential contracting years ago, ill say that if you came up to me asking 101 questions im going to be very vague and evasive. there are a lot of people who are assholes to work for and want to arm chair supervise something they know nothing about.

if you are going to do this, come at them just like in this video. if your asking me whats in my bag, what are you doing with that, im shutting you down. come out like, hey, im trying to put together a tool bag. i was wondering what tools you use and what you would recommend. come at me like your trying to learn and not questioning the process and i can tell you damn well every guy likes to talk about tools and will tell you whatever you want to know. probably more than you want to know. you will probably regret it when they wont shut up.

  35. tallswede80 on September 20, 2022 at 4:41 pm

arent impact tools supposed to be forged, not cast?

  36. Dan W on September 20, 2022 at 4:42 pm

FYI- PDF form is blocked by Bitly.
Edit: I’m an electrician and contractor, and you’re carrying almost every handtool you would need to do 95% of my job. Very good quality and variety. 💯

Flea markets and yard sales are a good source of quality used tools. British tools are good too!

  45. Eric Salazar on September 20, 2022 at 4:53 pm

The multimeter comes in handy when you need to test your car battery. I also use one whenever I’m changing light fixtures, outlets, and switches just to make sure it’s not live even after the breaker has been cut off. That’s probably one of the tools I use the most. My dad gave me a Fluke brand meter over 20 years ago, and I still use it.

I got Knipex Cobras and ditched ALL Chanellock and other adjustable pliers. The Knipex Wrench Pliers before that made me toss all adjustable wrenches.

I can give a shit where it’s made so long as it works. If America can’t or won’t make it, that is the Market, as far as nationality, you already lose the argument

Nice set. Don’t replace your grandfathers chisel. Just learn how to sharpen it. The steal is so much better then the newer steel.
